Parent Welcome

Welcome Parents/Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to The Axis Academy.

We know that choosing, or moving to, a new school can be a significant step for both you and your child. For some families, the journey to Axis has not always been straightforward. Your child may have experienced times when school has felt difficult, when their needs have not been fully understood, or when barriers have got in the way of them recognising just how much they are capable of.

At Axis, we want you to know that we see your child, not just their needs, their diagnosis or the challenges they may have experienced.

Our starting point is simple: every young person deserves the opportunity to feel safe, to belong and to succeed.

That is why we do things differently here.

We do not expect your child to simply fit into our school. Instead, we work hard to understand them and adapt what we do around their individual needs, strengths, interests and aspirations. This reflects the values that sit at the heart of both Axis Academy and the YES Trust. We are child-centred, adaptive and sensitive to need, and authentic in our relationships.

Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We know that you understand your child in a way that nobody else can, and we value the knowledge, experience and insight you bring. We want to work with you, building an open and honest partnership between home and school so that together we can give your child the very best opportunity to thrive.

Our approach is trauma-informed, therapeutic and grounded in a belief that behaviour is communication. We take time to understand what sits behind a young person’s experiences and responses, helping them to build trust, develop confidence, regulate their emotions and strengthen their relationships with others.

Of course, we want every young person at Axis to achieve academically and leave us with qualifications and outcomes they can be proud of. But our ambition goes much further than that. We want your child to discover what they are good at, develop a sense of who they are and begin to see what their future could be.

Through specialist teaching, therapeutic support and meaningful experiences both inside and beyond the classroom, we aim to prepare our young people not simply for their next qualification, but for their next chapter in life.

Most importantly, we will believe in your child.

We will celebrate their successes, stand alongside them when things are difficult and continually look for the potential that exists within them. There will inevitably be challenges along the way, but you will not be facing those challenges alone. We will work through them together.

We are incredibly proud of our school, our young people and the community we are building together. I hope that, as you become part of Axis, you and your child feel that same sense of belonging.

Welcome to Axis Academy. A place where your child can be understood, belong and achieve, because we do things differently here.
